UK Mortgage Advisers & Brokers for Expats in the USA

UK mortgages for expats living in the USA

Living in the United States and looking to buy, remortgage or refinance property in the UK? We are specialist UK mortgage advisers and brokers helping US residents, British expats and US citizens access UK lending.

  • Income in US dollars (USD) considered
  • Purchases, remortgages and buy-to-let
  • Handled remotely in your time zone

Why expats in the USA use a specialist broker

Many UK high street lenders decline applicants living overseas or offer them only limited products. We search the wider market, including specialist and private banks, to find lenders that accept residents of the USA.

US dollar income accepted

Many UK lenders accept income in US dollars for purchases, remortgages and buy-to-let.

US citizens and US tax residents

Some UK lenders are cautious about applicants who are US citizens or US tax residents because of US reporting rules (FATCA). We know which lenders will consider you.

Limited UK credit history

After years in the US, your UK credit file may be thin. Some lenders focus on your overseas credit and financial position instead.

What we can help with

Buying a UK home or investment property, remortgaging to a better rate, releasing equity, switching a former home to buy-to-let, or buying through a UK limited company. All arranged remotely while you live in the USA.

How it works

A straightforward process from first conversation to completion.

Offer to completion

We liaise with solicitors and valuers until your mortgage completes.

UK mortgage questions from expats in the USA

Answers to the questions we are asked most often.

Can I get a UK mortgage if I live in the USA?

Yes. A number of UK lenders accept US residents, including British expats and US nationals. Criteria vary, so matching you to the right lender first matters.

I am a US citizen. Will UK lenders deal with me?

Some will and some will not, largely because of US tax reporting requirements. A specialist broker can take you straight to lenders that accept US citizens.

Can I remortgage my UK property from the USA?

Yes. You can remortgage to a new rate, release equity or switch to buy-to-let while living in the US.

How much deposit will I need?

For expats and foreign nationals, lenders usually require a deposit of between 25% and 30% of the purchase price, depending on the lender, your residency, income and the type of property.
